MEDIA STATEMENT
Johannesburg, Monday, 30 September 2024 - Public Interest SA is thrilled to announce an overwhelming response to the call for nominations for the 2024 Whistleblower Awards. This year Public Interest SA received 45 valid nominations, almost double the number of nominations we received in 2023.
We extend our deepest gratitude to individuals and organisations from across the country who participated by nominating deserving whistleblowers whose courage and commitment to transparency have significantly impacted our society.
“The sheer volume of nominations we received speaks to the growing recognition of whistleblowers as crucial defenders of ethical governance, accountability, and justice. These nominations represent a broad spectrum of sectors and showcase the remarkable efforts of those who have taken a stand against wrongdoing,” says Tebogo Khaas, Chairperson of Public Interest SA
The adjudication and assessment process has begun in earnest, and our expert panel of judges is meticulously reviewing each submission. We are eager to celebrate these inspiring individuals, and a shortlist of nominees will be announced soon.
As we prepare for the prestigious Whistleblower Awards ceremony on 23 October 2024 at the Maslow Hotel in Menlyn, Pretoria, we are pleased to offer a limited number of complimentary tickets to the public. Tickets to the Whistleblowers Summit, taking place the following day, where thought leaders and advocates for justice will come together to discuss the vital role of whistleblowing in promoting accountability are also available.
What elevates the prestige of this year's award ceremony is the presence of Justice Mahube Molemela, President of the Supreme Court of Appeal, who will be delivering the keynote address. Her participation underscores the significance of the event and acknowledges and will honour the nominees at the evening's proceedings.
