South Africa’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) greylist is a welcome development, signalling improved oversight, strengthened compliance systems, and the political will to confront complex financial crimes. Yet, the hard-won progress remains fragile. Global evidence demonstrates that without sustained vigilance, continuous institutional reform, and societal pressure, regression is not only possible but likely.
