Public Interest SA will on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, formally hand over the Babita Deokaran Fallen Heroes of Integrity Award to the family of the late Mpho Mafole, a courageous public servant whose ethical conviction and service to the nation embody the values of integrity, accountability, and moral courage that this award celebrates.

Although the Mafole family attended the 2025 Whistleblowers Awards held on 27 October 2025 as special guests, administrative issues prevented the organisers from publicly recognising the honouree and handing over the commemorative plaque to the family’s representatives during the event.

This special handover ceremony seeks to correct that oversight and to honour Mpho Mafole’s enduring legacy — a legacy defined by his commitment to truth, transparency, and ethical public service.

The Babita Deokaran Fallen Heroes of Integrity Award honours individuals who, in pursuit of justice and accountability, have paid the ultimate price for standing against corruption. It serves as both a tribute and a solemn reminder of the need to protect those who expose wrongdoing in the public interest.
