Johannesburg, South Africa. Friday, 17 April 2026 — Public Interest SA welcomes the reported development that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, is set to assume an expanded national crime-fighting role while continuing in his provincial capacity.

This development coincides with the recent handover of a new state-of-the-art forensic laboratory by the Department of Public Works — an investment that has the potential to significantly enhance the country’s investigative and prosecutorial capabilities.
