Johannesburg, Monday, 15 December 2025 — Public Interest SA confirms that today it has formally lodged a complaint and a request for a formal inquiry into the fitness to hold office of advocate Andrea S. Johnson, Head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Honourable Mmamoloko Kubayi.
The complaint, submitted in the public interest, raises serious concerns relating to the management of conflicts of interest, compliance with recusal obligations, and conduct giving rise to a reasonable apprehension of bias within an institution central to South Africa’s anti-corruption efforts.
Public Interest SA has requested that the competent authority institute an independent inquiry into the matters raised and take such interim steps as may be necessary to safeguard the integrity, credibility, and public standing of the prosecuting authority.
Given the gravity of the issues raised, and out of respect for due process and the integrity of any ensuing proceedings, Public Interest SA will regrettably not make any further public statements on this matter until further notice.
This position is adopted to avoid prejudicing any inquiry, legal process, or institutional consideration that may follow.
Public Interest SA reiterates that this action is taken solely in the public interest, in defence of ethical governance, prosecutorial independence, and the rule of law.
