Our deliberative platforms provide safe space for public discourse and engagement..
Areboleng (a re boleleng) derives from the Setswana / Sepedi phrase which loosely means “let us chat”, “let’s talk”, “let’s debate”, or let’s engage”. This is our flagship program that seeks to encourage and create opportunities for enduring public dialogue and engagement through active civic participation in democratic processes.

Our quarterly Breaklogues and the inaugural annual Public Interest Lecture in 2025 reflect our unwavering commitment to fostering dialogue as a vital tool for addressing national challenges. Through these platforms, we aim to engage diverse perspectives, promote constructive discourse, and drive collaborative efforts toward finding sustainable solutions to pressing societal issues.
We organise public events aligned to our various programs and projects to achieve our mission.
Whistleblowers Awards &
Summit
The Whistleblowers Awards and Whistleblowers Summit are flagship annual events designed to promote transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership in South Africa. The Whistleblowers Awards celebrate individuals who have demonstrated exceptional courage by exposing corruption, fraud, and other misconduct. These awards shine a spotlight on the resilience of whistleblowers, whose efforts often come at great personal and professional risk, yet serve as a vital pillar in the fight against corruption. Through these awards, Public Interest SA seeks to honor and support those who act in the public interest, upholding the integrity of both private and public institutions. The Whistleblowers Summit, held in conjunction with the awards, serves as a platform for critical discussions around the protection, empowerment, and resilience of whistleblowers. This gathering brings together leaders from civil society, government, corporate governance, academia, and the media to explore the challenges faced by whistleblowers and to advocate for stronger legal and institutional frameworks that safeguard their rights. The summit also highlights the synergy between whistleblowers and investigative journalism, underscoring the importance of collaboration in exposing wrongdoing. Together, these events aim to foster a culture of ethical governance in South Africa, where whistleblowing is recognised and valued as an essential component of democracy and accountability. By bringing attention to the experiences and contributions of whistleblowers, Public Interest SA strives to cultivate an environment where exposing misconduct is not only encouraged but protected.
Annual Fundraising
Golf Day
Our annual fundraising golf events serve as a cornerstone in our efforts to support worthy causes, including the Fallen Heroes of Integrity's Whistleblower Fund. These events bring together leaders from various sectors, passionate individuals, and supporters who share a commitment to promoting accountability, integrity, and ethical governance in South Africa. Participants not only enjoy a day of camaraderie and networking on the golf course but also contribute to a cause that empowers those who courageously expose corruption and unethical practices.
The Fallen Heroes of Integrity's Whistleblower Fund was established to provide critical support to whistleblowers who risk their careers, personal safety, and livelihoods to uphold the principles of transparency and justice. Funds raised through these golf events go directly towards legal assistance, financial relief, and mental health support for whistleblowers who face retaliation for their courageous actions. By participating in these events, our donors and sponsors play a vital role in ensuring that these brave individuals are not abandoned or left vulnerable in their pursuit of truth and accountability.
Each annual golf event is more than just a fundraising initiative—it’s a celebration of ethical citizenship and a reminder of the collective responsibility we have to protect those who defend our democracy. Through the generosity and support of our community, we are able to sustain the Whistleblower Fund and ensure that whistleblowers continue to receive the assistance they need. Our golf events have become a platform for solidarity, bringing together people who believe in a more just and transparent society while contributing to meaningful, lasting change.
