ABOUT THE AWARDS

Established in 2023, the Whistleblower Awards are committed to strengthening transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.

They advance these ideals by:

  • Recognising and safeguarding whistleblowers whose courage strengthens our democracy.

  • Promoting ethical conduct across public and private institutions.

  • Enhancing transparency in decision-making and organisational practices.

  • Preventing fraud and corruption through vigilance and public accountability.

  • Supporting legal and regulatory compliance as a cornerstone of good governance.

  • Raising public awareness about the vital role whistleblowers play in society.

  • Advocating for comprehensive whistleblower support to ensure their protection and resilience.

The primary goal of the award is to recognise and celebrate individuals who courageously expose unethical practices while promoting a culture of ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability within organisations and across society.

Vision

The Whistleblowers Awards stand as a beacon of courage, integrity, and accountability — honouring those who risk their safety and well-being to expose wrongdoing and uphold the principles of transparency and justice. These awards aim to inspire a culture where truth-telling is celebrated, and where whistleblowers are protected, supported, and empowered to drive meaningful change. Our vision is of a society where ethical courage is valued, where whistleblowers safeguard democracy, and where institutions are held accountable for fostering transparency and ethical governance. By recognising these brave individuals, we seek to transform the narrative of whistleblowing — from one of retaliation and stigma to one of recognition and respect — helping to build a future rooted in justice, fairness, and integrity.

Message by the Convenor

True leadership is not measured by the power you wield, but by the integrity you uphold and the justice you fight for, even when no one is watching.

2023 In Quotes...

We have had whistleblowing legislation for 23 years since 2000 when the Protected Disclosures Act was passed. Are we, as country, not due for a detailed account by the ministry of justice, law enforcement agencies and other entities of the executive arm of state on what has happened in the terrain of corruption-fighting, whistleblowing, and witness protection since the inception of the legislation to the present and before we adopt more laws in the area? I do not mean generic and predictable, declaration to fight corruption and to prosecute or hold to account perpetrators.
